In what can only be termed as a shockingly insensitive incident, a 70-year-old woman residing in East Delhi’s Shahdara area was allegedly beaten by her son. A social activist has posted video of a woman beating her mother-in-law in an attempt to get the accused charged, the Times of India.

Kundan Srivastava put a call out to the Akhilesh Yadav, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, to press charges against Sangeeta Jain. The CCTV footage purportedly shows Jain assaulting Rajrani Jain, first with her bare hands, then with a piece of cloth used as a noose, a stone and a water heating rod.

Srivastava accuses Sangeeta of being a “cruel woman” who is currently in divorce proceedings with Sandeep, the victim’s son. According to the activist, police are dragging their feet because the accused is a woman. In his Facebook post, he writes

“Strong laws were created for women but some women are misusing the laws. I would urge the Government of India to action against such women. I promise will help you into this cruelty and I also believe Crime has no Gender!!!” Houston Chronicle, USA
