The Hon’ble Prime Minister
Government of India
Sub – An appeal for saving the life of an ill-fated physical handicapped boy like me.
With due respect, I beg to state that I am a permanent resident of Deb Khanda village in Hooghly district of West Bengal. I am a 22 years old handicapped boy and my life is coming continuously to its existence crisis. It is an earnest request to you that please read this letter with your favor to end the dark of my life and to exhibit the light of dawn in my life.
Sir, when I was at the age of 4 years, I was a normal boy like any other normal boy. Then I was able to walk, run and do everything. But, at that time a skin rash appeared on my whole body and from then, muscle strength of my body is reducing day by day. My family had taken me away to many local doctors for my treatment and most of them had suggested ‘Exercise’ as the best way of my treatment. As there was no Physiotherapists available near our village, my mother took me away to her father’s house for my physiotherapy. But my family, except my mother, did not allow this because it was waste of money for them as at that time my father’s income was less than 1200 rupees. But my mother went there by force. My physiotherapy continued for 3-4 months and my muscle strength was developing. But at that very moment, I was taken back to my home for our daily family quarrel. Then my physiotherapy stopped for almost a year. After a year, a Physiotherapist was appointed at my home. But for the lack of our family income it was not possible for my family to maintain the expenses for the purpose of my physiotherapy. From then my physiotherapy stopped totally. After a few months I started to lose my walking ability and even my standing ability. The, strength of my both hand started to reduce day by day and even reducing now. My spinal cord and rib bone structure is also bending continuously. Some months later, my family (by the pressure of my mother) took me away to Kolkata for my treatment. After many check-ups and examinations the Doctor said that there is no physical disease in my body and therefore my treatment is possible only in foreign countries. Then after almost a year, I was taken away to Bengaluru for my treatment. There, the Doctors examined my physical condition and gave a date for my admission which was 4 months later. But, like before, money was the main obstruction of my treatment. So, only for the lack of money, my trip to Bengaluru for the admission was cancelled. It was the most horrible disaster happened in my life. And from then, the chapter of my treatment was closed permanently.
You’ll feel happy to know that despite of my disability, only for my mother’s indomitable will and unimaginable help, at present I am an Honors Graduate and also it was not possible without my father’s help; because as I am not able to walk, my father always had taken me to the school and college though he had always blamed me for this reason. And above all it was the God alike teachers’ blessing hands upon my head, without which my educational way would be difficult or may be impossible as I was not able to join the class daily for 4-5 hours. I have got 76% with star marks in the Secondary Examination, 65% in Higher Secondary Examination and 40% marks in Graduation (English Honors). I had got many Scholarships from different Government Schemes and thus I continued my study.
Sir, in this harrowing condition of my life, I am writing this letter to you as I have found a ray of hope when I saw the news on a daily newspaper that you have taken the responsibility of treatment of a girl from Agra who was suffering from a serious disease. Maybe I came to know about this news by God’s will. Now I am a burden to my family. My family members have said that they are unwilling unable to spend any more amounts for my treatment as I have a sister reading in Class-X and the remainder money is needed for her marriage. So, it seems that all the doors of my life are closed. But I have learned from HELEN KELLER’S biography that when every door of your life is closed, one door is surely opened and you have to find the door. Sir, only you can take me to that desired door and help me to reach the goal. I also get inspired by the remark of HENRY FORD that when everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it. I personally believe that at present when a head replacement is possible, then my curability is not impossible!
My life has presented me in such an inefficient situation that even I have no ability to do any suicidal attempt by my own will to get rid of my distressful life. But I don’t want to die. I want to live freely like an independent man winning the struggle of life and do walk by hook or by crook and I don’t want to be suppressed in this critical situation of my life. Being a handicapped boy, from very childhood days I have been dreaming of becoming a famous man all over the World. But now I want to be an uncommon man among the common like you only by helping the distressed people. I want to do work for my Country. Though it is laughable to others, but I know that you’ll appreciate my dream. Please give me the chance to fulfill my dream. As life is not to be gotten for a second time, I want to make my dream a grand success in this lifetime which God has gifted to me. So it is now a very earnest request to you that please take the responsibility of my treatment and erase the word ‘handicapped’ from my life, because I know the painful feeling of a handicapped boy/girl when someone point at him/her saying the word ‘handicapped’. I want to delete the word ‘handicapped’ from the world and only you can give me the opportunity. Please feel my pain and take the decision. I am so helpless that I am even unable to go to you for my appeal, and so I am sending this letter to you by the help of my mother.I am requesting you again and again not to refuse this letter. Your refusal of this letter may be the cause of ruination of my hope i.e. my life, and only you can bright the ray of my hope. Hence, your kindness is the only ray of hope in my life. This is my ‘Mann ki Baat’ presented to you. Please forgive me if any unwillingly mistake is done by me in this letter.
I’ll be waiting for a helpful reply from you.
Thanking you. With my best regard to you.
Your most obedient Citizen
